Description:
Our first Grolsch brewery was located in Groenlo, Eastern Holland back in 1615. For a couple of hundred years as fashions changed, we brewed beer. Then by 1895 so many people were enjoying Grolsch we had to open another brewery in nearby Enschede. More years passed, fashions continued to change and more great people started to appreciate Grolsch's great taste. By 1988 we decided to replace the two existing breweries with a new state-of-the-art one which was finally opened on April 7th 2004, again in Enschede. The fact it took sixteen years to complete shows just how much effort we put into making it into one of the most modern and environmentally friendly breweries in the world.

Style: Premium American Lager

  • Premium American Lagers are the height of the American Lager style category and achieve this status by utilizing the fewest, if any at all, of adjuncts. Some of the Premium beers can even be all-malt (meaning that they are brewed only with malted barley and no adjuncts like rice or corn).

    Though the style evolved in America and the style name reflects that, this is a very popular style internationally and many imports to the US are Premium American Lagers. The use of the word American in the name of this style refers only to the country that created the style originally, not the country that the beer was brewed in. Many of the best examples of this beer style come from Europe, Asia or overseas.
