Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45-degree plato, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the biggest IPA ever brewed! At 20% abv and 120 IBU's, you can see why we call this the Holy Grail for Hopheads!

120 Minute IPA is available on a very limited basis!

Our family of Indian Pale Ales includes the 60 Minute I.P.A. and the 90 Minute Imperial I.P.A.. Both feature our unique continuous hopping program, where they receive a single hop addition that lasts over the course of the entire boil (60 and 90 minutes respectively). This breakthrough hopping method makes for a beer that is extremely hoppy without being overly bitter.

As a brewery, we brew off-centered ales for off-centered people. Our beers push the envelope of what beer is expected to be, often using non-standard ingredients, such as raisins, chicory, maple syrup, vanilla and grapes. We're also known for brewing beers with lots of hops or high alcohol contents. Some of our beers, including the WorldWide Stout, 120 Minute India Pale Ale, and the raspberry-flavored strong ale Fort, are highly alcoholic, reaching 15% to 20% alcohol by volume (typical beers have around 3% to 8% alcohol by volume). A handful of our beers are also aged in huge wooden tanks. Dogfish is also known for our Ancient Ales, brewed with the support of molecular archeologists from the University of Pennsylvania. Style: Imperial IPA

  • The Imperial India Pale Ale, also known as the Double Imperial Pale Ale (DIPA) is an invention that only an American brewer would dream of - an extreme version of an existing and already extreme beer style, the India Pale Ale. In many cases, the words "Imperial" and "Double" have become interchangeable when it comes to beer styles.

    Like the standard India Pale Ale, either English or American hop varieties can be used in this higher alcohol, highly hopped brew, but American hops are most commonly used and people have come to expect the citrus or pine character of American hops in Imperial India Pale Ales. No matter their country of origin, a very liberal use of hops is the key to a successful version of this style and most of them contain a lot of malt as well in order to allow for higher alcohol content.

    The origin of the Imperial India Pale Ale is somewhat controversial, but many credit Vinnie Cilurzo, now owner of Russian River Brewing (CA), with the creation of the style while he was brewing at Blind Pig Brewing Company, also in California.
